Dong A University is one of the leading private universities in Central Vietnam, recognized for its strong focus on practical education, international collaboration, and student employability. With a vision to equip students with global communication skills and career readiness, the university partnered with ELSA in 2023 to strengthen English pronunciation and communication training for its first-year students.

The Challenge

To ensure career readiness, Dong A University needed an effective way to improve students' global communication skills at scale. Manual evaluation of speaking assignments created a heavy administrative workload for lecturers, and providing standardized, accurate pronunciation assessment across thousands of students was difficult.

The Solution

The university fully integrated ELSA into its first-year Pronunciation course, where their performance within the ELSA interface accounted for 30% of the final course assessment score. Lecturers designed the curriculum with 36 ELSA-integrated assignments per class, alongside additional in-class speaking activities. The university also maintained momentum by hosting annual workshops for students and training sessions for teachers. Due to the high success rate, the university expanded the rollout in 2026 to include 223 English-major students and additional English subjects beyond just pronunciation.

The Results

The integration of ELSA delivered remarkable improvements in student performance and lecturer efficiency. Within a 12 week period, students increased their average pronunciation score by 10 points. The program drove exceptional student engagement, with learners practicing an average of 29 minutes per day—nearly double the ELSA benchmark. Given the program's initial success, Dong A University expanded their partnership with ELSA in 2026 to create a continuous English-learning ecosystem across multiple subjects and student cohorts.
